Miss Top Ten

There was a time when Pakistan’s Lahore based film industry produced a lot of films that had titles such as Miss Colombo, Miss International, Miss Manila, Miss Bangkok and what not. Directed by Ms. Shamim Ara, Babra Shareef played the title role in all of them. The films had nothing to do with beauty pageants and introduced the concepts of women empowerment and independence in those films. The protagonist was always this fiesty girl who found love and happiness, but on her own terms.

On my way to work, I saw this bill board that advertises a film called Miss Top Ten. Now this is a creative title, if there ever was one. I believe the logic behind the title is that the heroine in the film is so out of this world, she is not just number one, she occupies all the top ten slots in the hearts and minds of the people.

But if she was all the numbers from 1 to 10, then why there are three girls on the poster?

  • One of them will be the winner of the title Miss Top Ten?

  • may be its a life about 3 girls who are going to win some kind of title….and then there is mystery, suspense, romance, violence, etc, etc….lolz…funny titles though which you have mentioned…

  • It is a sales gimmick: you need to watch the film to find out who the remaining seven misses are? :O

Btw, lol at the censorship with red paint!

  • That’s not a red top?! :>

  • which one of’em is the Miss Top Ten,anyway?

  • The title should have been ‘Miss Top Tens’ πŸ˜‰

  • πŸ™‚
    Take Care…

  • Yeah… the red sketch pen censor rocks!! (Click the image to see a higher res image) Wonder why they spared the remaining skin… I for one would have drawn cute full sleeved turtle neck cozy sweaters for each of them πŸ˜€

  • Because the the paki film MOJO-JOJO’s are only familiar with numbers 1 to 10 but their Counting level is less than and equal to three. So the Paki mojo’s merely can count between 1 and 3, hence they have included 3 heroin’s in the film.
IFF they possibly can count upto 10 then they might have added 10 heroin’s in the film (They don’t even know how to produce good film because they are still in the dilemma of GUJJAR’s. their next film might be “GUJJAR MOLVI”,” GUJJAR SWATI”, “GUJJAR TALIBANI.” ).

  • The poster coloring is hilarious, atleast standardization has been applied in the sense that the red color appears on the lips of the male actors as well. Censoring of this type is alive and kicking not just in KSA then??

  • lol @ gujjar talibani , glad to see u posting again taz, i think all three are in some sleazy beauty contest called top 10 and the judges are bought by bookies or something like that πŸ™‚

  • i’m no expert on lollywood but can anyone tell me if they’ve made a movie in the past twenty years in which no firearms can be seen?

  • the others were item dancers?

  • Taz, you must watch this film and write a review. πŸ™‚

    Cheers,

    Quirky Indian

  • nah nah who are these 2 other girls?

Because the middle one is Sana herself.

  • Hey, I was wondering just today what you are upto? Not in the headlines for so long! But your come-back with this topic makes me feel – are you out of current topics? Comm’on Tazeen Pakistan is going through a lot more than these three girls. Give us the real dope πŸ™‚

  • The other 7 get killed in the beginning of the movie and so they are irrelevant. Anyway the total characters on the poster are 10.

  • Perhaps she’s special because she has the power to divide herself into three different girls, each as feisty as hell.

    Ah, but why Ten then…?

Perhaps she has the ability to split herself into ten feisty women and the other seven have all gone for a meal with their imaginary friends?

  • welcome back taz πŸ™‚

do you know if these movies are available on dvds? i often yearn to watch them with my fiance, but i feel afraid of the men in there, and the inevitable fight my hot headed fiance has with ogling pakistani men… i am a lot more phatto than she ever will be unfortunately.

  • also, i used to be on the bloglist – have you updated the list or relegated me? πŸ™

  • Xille,

Dukhtee rag pe hath rakh diya aap ne. I had about 220 photos of Pakistani film bill boards and posters that I took over a period of 3 years and was working on a feature for Herald when the robbers took my laptop and along with it, the material of all my anthropological research. You have no idea how sad I am with that loss.

    GP,

You can keep up with other bloggers who are blogging about more relevant news. I am out of the loop now and will blog about absolutely useless stuff because i have so much shit going on in my life, i blog to relieve stress.

  • kathmal,

If I had the time, I would have loved to go with your fiancee to the cinema and together, we would have kicked everyone’s ass.

I did not kick you off my blogroll. Something must have happened with it.

  • I got it, one is Miss, the other Top and the third Ten. If the Pakistani film industry is ANYTHING like Bollywood, that is completely possible.

  • Lol! i am curious to know the story πŸ˜›

  • The title is in a mixture of Nastaliq and the Roman script, which is kinda interesting.

A chap reading it will have to start from right to left amd then switch to reading left to right.

  • the heroine has 10 roles in the movie i guess
